LO1: Narrative home work

Dead mans shoes trailer starts with calm atmosphere this shows to the audience that at the beginning the film trailer is peacefully, the trailer then goes on to show horrific scenes, which kicks off the rest of the story line, this is a form of disruption, this makes the audience eager to know more. The action that is directed against the disruption in this film trailer looks to be creating more disruption which could mean as the film goes along it will get more tense for the audience to watch. However this trailer ends with disruption, this is so it doesn't give much away about whether this problem is resolved or not, this leaves the audience intrigued, which will make them go and see the full film.

Submarine trailer is non linear as it doesn't give anything away, I know this because it only gives an over view of what is happening, and it doesn't include any disruptions, this could connote that the film trailer doesn't want to give too much, on the other hand it could suggest that the film as a whole is quite calm, this could attract people that prefer this type of film.

Four lions is also non linear, as it doesn't give too much away about the beginning, middle and end, this trailer concentrates on the best parts of the films which is a different way of intriguing the audience to watch the rest of the film as they are interested in the characters in this trailer and not just the new state of equilibrium (Tzvetan Todorov 1977) The best bits of this film is show because it shows the humour in it which shows that the genre of the film is humour.

This is England is also non linear, this is similar to four lions as the trailer mostly shoes the best bits, this is as the film is a comedy so they want to focus the audience on to the humour within the trailer. This trailer doesn't start with the normal calm atmosphere, as it begins with the little boy getting bullied which immediately grabs the viewers attention as they want to know more, however the trailer soon switches to a calm and funny atmosphere of which the audience realise its a comedy and they keep watching.

1. How do the film trailers you have looked at use or challenge this/ how are your film trailers that you have looked at non – linear (give examples)? 2. Which of the 8 narrative types does each film trailer that you have looked at use( give examples). How does this link to the genre/ representations of the film trailer?

LO1: Project time and homework

Doing everything on the 5 trailers analysis until complete

LO1: Audio and visual Promos

1.) The dark haired boy Oliver is struggling with life as he hasn't found himself, meanwhile his parents love life isn't going  well but Oliver is determined to keep them together, however Oliver also has a love life of his own to worry about as he has found a girlfriend and he also wants to be the best boyfriend for her.

2.) This Film is to entertain, this is because although parent splitting up can be a sensitive subject the film is still humorous and keeps the audience intrigued.

3.)  In the trailer it shows a shot reverse shot structure made up of point of point of view shots of the two main protagonists, this connotes the start of a relationship forming. I will pastiche this if i need to show a conversation or relationship in my trailer.

1.) A little boy get bullied at school, but then his becomes friends a group of older people, after this he starts to get treated like an adult and he acts like an adult.

2.) This film is to entertain because the little boy acts older than he is, but not only this he tries to do things that only 18+ can do, this is very comedic as the boy fails at thing making it funnier for the audience.

3.) In the trailer they use reviews showing the films success, i will pastiche this as it will show the viewers that my film is good and recommend to people.

1.) A group of amateur terrorists are trying to blow stuff up but things keep going wrong, they keep making new plans to do things but none of them work out.

2.) This film is to Entertain because even though the subject of terrorism is quite a serous thing to joke about somehow warp have made it alright for people to watch.

3.) The trailer includes a lot of effects, such as explosions, I would pastiche the effects in my trailer to make the the trailer more exciting and appealing for the audience.

1.) This music video doesn't have a narrative as it is just a performance, i know this because the singer is just just miming on the spot.

2.) This Music video is to Entertain because the singer isn't doing serious miming, it is quite humorous

3.) The music video is really colorful, i would pastiche this if i was to do a happy song as bright colors are often refereed to happy things.

Reference: Joy Fantastic -  Hudson Mohawke (16.05.10) Music Video. Directed by Konx OM PAX. Country: United Kingdom. Production company:  Warp. Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlyeNkxlNhU [Last Accessed: 10.09.14]

1.) This music video doesn't have a narrative as it is just a performance, I know this because the video is a group of young girls dancing.

2.) This Music video is to Entertain because there is a performance of young people dancing.

3.) In the music video there are clips of the singer mining, and it flicks to the performers dancing, I would pastiche this as it is a good way of entertaining the audience with the dancers but also showing the audience who is singing as well.

Reference: Big Love -  Jamie Lidell (02.07.13) Music Video. Directed by Michael CARTER. Country: United Kingdom. Production company:  Warp. Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLL1-UYsHA0 [Last Accessed: 10.09.14]

1.) This music vide  has a narrative, this music video is an adult giving advice to young boys on how to attract girls when growing up, i know this is the narrative because in this video is a group of boys and a man walking down the street while different girls get distracted by the sight of them, in between this the man singing a song and also sings it while the boys are there, which could mean that the advice he is giving could be to them.

2.) This Music video is to

3.) In the music video there are good shots been used such as close up shot, this shows the emotions on both the boys and girls faces, this shows the viewers the response to the boy from the girls, this shows that the advice is working, i would pastiche this if i was to do a narrative so the views are able to focus on my characters emotions.

LO1: Research of audio visual promos

Submarine (2011) - Film Trailer Directed by Richard Ayoade - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-WCCdkVDr4

Purpose -  The purpose of this film is to entertain. This film is something that a lot of the audience could relate to this is because the film is a social realism film because it uses real life situations, such as a parents divorce and a love life. This makes the film or appealing for the audience as they can relate to the story of the film. During the trailer there are quite a few comedic parts, this connotes that the film is to entertain rather than to inform.

Form - This video of the film is formed as a non-linear trailer, this is to give viewers a preview of the film to make them want to go and see it, however because this trailer is non-linear, this means that the trailer doesn't give too much away.

Content/Meaning -The Mise en scene Conventions are encoded to create a preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980) to the audience. The preferred reading (Hall 1980) of Submarine is a teenage boy that is concerned for his parents’ marriage he is constantly is aware of how his parents’ marriage is doing. This instantly makes the audience aware that this boy is an only child. However later on in the trailer a girl is introduced in to the boy’s life, this girl is very mysterious and doesn't give much away in the trailer, this makes the viewers want to know more about the her making them want to watch the film. The location of this film trailer seems to look local to the character, this denotes that this is all happening in one place. The lighting in this film trailer is high key this makes the film quite happy and jolly and gives the film a natural look, this high key lighting is towards the end of the trailer this connotes that the film gets happier. However at the beginning of the trailer the films lighting is low key, this connotes that there are some gloomy parts to the film and it also creates mystery and enigma this also making the film quite gritty which also shows that this film is a social realism film as not everything is always really bright. The costumes in this trailer are casual clothes, which are items such as coats and jeans, this creates verisimilitude of normality of the characters this is because these are the standard modern clothes, therefore the audience can relate to her. Another reason the male character has worn a coat is because it connotes that he has a distinctive fashion as his coat denoted in the trailer is quite outdated this can reflect on his personality as it suggests that he is an isolated character from society, this could also connote that the weather is quite cool meaning that the film could be set in quite a cool season such as autumn. The girl featured in this trailer doesn't use much gestures, this connotes that this girl is very mysterious which is not a very stereotypical character and this film trailer does not give much away about her. The main character in this film trailer is the teenage boy, the genre of this character is not stereo typical as he is not seen as very dominant during the trailer as the girl seems to be the dominant one which challenges our expectations.

 Film Trailer Structure -
Submarine trailer is non-linear as it doesn't give anything away, I know this because it only gives an over view of what is happening, and it doesn't include any disruptions, this could connote that the film trailer doesn't want to give too much away, on the other hand it could suggest that the film as a narrative is quite calm, this could attract people that prefer this type of film.

 Camera Work

Angles -

At the start a high angle has been denoted, this is to suggest that the boy in the trailer is powerless and subordinate.

Shot type -

At the beginning of the trailer a shot type denoted is an over the shoulder shot, this was used to show the boys perspective which straight away makes the audience feel included, another shot denoted in this scene is an establishing shot, this is used to set the scene, this connotes that this character is isolated as he is alone in the scene, which could also connote that he is alone to think about things. Medium Close up shot is also denoted during this trailer; this is used to connote the serious emotion on the characters faces which indicate how the characters behave. Another shot type denoted is a crowd shot; this is to demonstrate the atmosphere during this scene. Two shot/medium shot is also being used numerous of times in this trailer, this connotes that the two people in the shots are the main characters; this also connotes their emotions towards each other.

Movement -

During this trailer tacking has being denoted, this is to involve the audience in the trailer which also keeps them interested, it could also connote that these two people are important characters in this scene.

Editing

Transitions - A transition been denoted is wipe, this is an up wipe, this symbolises the type writer which is a prop also denoted in this trailer. This transition is a way to change location, this is also an ellipsis.

Title Graphics – Throughout the trailer different titles have being used; an example of this is when it says “Identify love interest". This is used as a narrative for the trailer, to make the audience contemporary with the film.

Montage – Montage has been denoted in this film trailer when the couple are kissing. This montage shows the progression of the couple kissing; this is shown by using a lot of different shots.

Slow motion – Slow motion has been denoted in this film trailer when the boy is running in the road, this has been used when the characters are jumping and walking, this has been used to reinforce the happy mood during this scene and is also used slow down something that would be too quick to see.

Sound- The sound that is denoted is diegetic sound this is denoted near the beginning of the film trailer, the diegetic sound used is a type writer, this connotes to the audience that the type writer is significant to this character, this indicates that this character is bubbly, this makes the audience already have appreciation towards this character as he has a distinctive personality.

Genre - The Genre of this film is comedy, drama and romance. I know this because during the film trailer there are some humours lines said by the characters, these parts are in the trailer so the audience know it’s a comedy; this film trailer has most likely included the best parts of the film which makes the audience want to go see it. This film also includes a love story, which creates different dramas through the film.

Intended Audience -
The intended audience for this film is based around young people age 15+, I think this because the trailer consists of sexual humour which would not be suitable for viewers younger than 15.

Four Lions (2007) - Film Trailer Directed by Chris Morris - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew-SrlQ9tlI

Purpose - The purpose of this trailer is to entertain the audience as there are a lot of comedic parts during this trailer. This film is unusual as terrorism isn't normally something that can be related to humour. However the purpose of this film to make people laugh at the failed attempts of terrorism. This film could be seen a social realism as it uses very real life situations which makes this film more humorous.

Form - This video of the film is formed as a trailer, this is to give viewers a preview of the film to make them want to go and see it.

Content/Meaning -
The Mise en scene conventions are encoded to create a preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980) to the viewer. The preferred reading (Hall 1980) of Four Lions is to look at terrorism at a different perspective which challenges the audiences views against it as the film also is about friendship and unity as key work together to try and reach their goal. The location of this film trailer was set in Sheffield which creates verisimilitude as it is in local areas so the audience can relate to it, however the film trailer also denotes places such as London which is a big city, this creates enigma and verisimilitude as the narrative creates a purpose of what this group of terrorist want to achieve in London as it is seen as the goal of the narrative. The characters also go to Pakistan this could connote that the film is quite adventurous this connotes that the characters will go to extremes to get to where they want to be. The lighting in this film trailer is high key this makes the film have a natural look this is seen through the trailer as Four Lions is a comedy and is not meant to be denoted as a serious film. The main characters are wearing casual clothing such as coats, trousers and jumpers, however the costumes change throughout the trailer when the characters change location, for example the characters go to Pakistan which was based in a deserted area, in this scene the characters wear different clothes such as light shirts and shorts which represents the warmth of where the scene is set. The character in this film trailer challenge the stereotypical dominant men, this is because the men in this film trailer are represented as quite useless characters. The props denoted in this film trailer are things such as guns and bandanas; this connotes violence and criminal acts which is stereotypical of the terrorism in the film. The male characters in this trailer denotes very sneaky gestures as they are constantly running, traveling and hiding in places which is stereotypical because the characters are as we know terrorist the characters are desperate to not be caught.

Film Trailer Structure -

Four Lions is also non-linear, as it doesn't give too much away about the beginning, middle and end. This trailer concentrates on the best parts of the films which is a different way of intriguing the audience to watch the rest of the film as they are interested in the characters in this trailer and not just the new state of equilibrium (Tzvetan Todorov 1977) The best bits of this film is shown because it shows the humour in it which shows that the genre of the film is humour.

 Camera Work

Angles - A high angle of a main character has been denoted in this trailer at the beginning, this could be to connote that even though this character is a terrorist they are still weak and subordinate; this indicates that they aren't very high ranked terrorist.

Shot type -  A establishing shot has been denoted in this trailer, this is connote whereabouts the scene is set. Two shot/medium shot is also denoted in this trailer, this connotes that the two people in the shots are the main focus in this scene; It also allows the audience to see both the characters emotions at the same time to make the scene more intense. Another shot type denoted is a crowd shot; this is to demonstrate the atmosphere during this scene. Half way through this trailer an over the shoulder shot is denoted when the character are having a conversation, this was denoted to make the audience see the conversation from a different perspective which straight away makes the audience feel included.

Movement - Denoted in this trailer is a panning shot, this is is
denoted to connote where the location is of the moving car, this is to set the scene. Rule of thirds has been denoted where the characters are in the desert, this is to connote the balance and composition in the scene and also to divide up the screen which makes the people in the middle the main focus in the scene.

Editing

Transitions -  A transition denoted in this trailer is a wipe, this is seen when the wide shot of a field comes on screen from the right, this transition has been used in this trailer to change locations, this is a type of ellipsis.

Title Graphics – Throughout the trailer a title has been denoted numerous of times, an example of this is when it says “laugh out loud funny from start to finish" – The Daily Telegraph, This title graphic is used to show the review to this connotes that the film has status, which makes the audience more inclined to a see the full film.

Cross Cutting – A cross cut has been denoted in this film trailer, this is denoted when the characters are in a desert, this is then followed by a tram going past in the next shot, this is juxtaposition as the 2 locations contrast together,

Insert Shot – An insert shot is denoted in the film when the character is using his phone, this shot goes from a wide shot to a close up shot of his phone, this connotes the importance of that object during this scene.

Sound- The sound that is
denoted is a non-diegetic sound which is denoted at the beginning of the film trailer after the first scene of the trailer has ended, this music is quite playful, this makes the audience aware that this film is not serious even though it is about terrorism.

Genre - This Film is a comedy, I know this because in the trailer there are numerous things that unexpectedly happens which brings the humour to the trailer, these parts are likely to be some of the best parts of the trailer, this is so it makes the audience laugh, leaving them to what to go and see the full film.

Intended Audience - The intended audience for this film is based around young people age 15+, I think this because the trailer consists of violent humour which would not be suitable for viewers younger than 15.

This is England  (2010) - Film Trailer Directed by Shane Meadows - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0jkv2bRFgQ

Purpose -  This film is to entertain as it is amusing. This film is another example of social realism as the trailer shows again how they used real life situations within the film, this makes people more interested, this film also includes a real life crisis when Margret Thatcher was taking over, this makes it funny for the audience as this is an actual situation which happened to people around England and it shows how they dealt with it in a very humorous way.

Form - This video of the film is formed as a trailer, this is to give viewers a preview of the film to make them want to go and see it. There are a lot of comedic parts during this trailer this connotes that the film is to entertain the audience.

Content/Meaning -
The Mise en scene Conventions are encoded to create a preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980) to the audience. The preferred reading (Hall 1980) of This is England is a young boy getting bullied at school, this is shown at the beginning of the trailer, this instantly makes the audience empathize with the boy making them feel attached the character. However, the boy makes friends with people a lot older than him; this makes the film more humorous as the boy idolizes the adults. I know this because in the trailer the boy get his hair cut to look like the others, this is funny for the audience as it makes them think how adorable the boy is. The location of This Is England is set in Nottingham; this is a quite well known place for the audience which also creates a verisimilitude as the audience are able to comprehend to the location which makes them feel an instant connection to the film. The lighting in this film trailer is high key this makes the film have a natural look this is seen throughout the trailer as this is a comedy and is not meant to be denoted as a serious film, however some parts are low key as some parts are meant to be serious but in a comedic form. The main characters are wearing casual clothing such as coats, tops, trousers and jumpers, however these are not modern day clothes as the film is set in 1983, this means that the characters are wearing older clothes to fit with the year the film was set. The characters in this film trailer are the stereotypical dominant men; this is because the men in this film trailer are represented as quite strong independent characters that stand up to what they believe in. The props denoted in this film trailer are things such as spray paint cans, this connotes that the characters in this film aren't very high class as they are vandalising the area which is also a criminal act which connotes that the men are quite neutral characters, which also can be seen as quite stereotypical of men. The male characters in this trailer denotes very violent gestures, such as when the men are slamming doors, throwing objects and head butting other people, this is star persona (Richard Dyer 1975) as men can often be referred to been more violent than women.

Film Trailer Structure -

This is England is also non-linear, this is similar to Four Lions as the trailer mostly shoes the best bits, this is as the film is a comedy so they want to focus the audience on to the humour within the trailer. This trailer doesn't start with the normal calm atmosphere, as it begins with the little boy getting bullied which immediately grabs the viewer’s attention as they want to know more, however the trailer soon switches to a calm and funny atmosphere of which the audience realise it’s a comedy and they keep watching.

Camera Work -

Angles -   At the start of the trailer a high angle has been
denoted, this is to suggest that the boy in the trailer is powerless and subordinate; this has impact on the audience they sympathise with the character.

Another shot type used is a crowd shot; this is to demonstrate the atmosphere during this scene. Half way through this trailer an over the shoulder shot is denoted when the character are having a conversation, this was denoted to make the audience see the conversation from a different perspective which straight away makes the audience feel included.

Movement - During this trailer tacking has being
denoted, this is to involve the audience in the trailer which also keeps them interested, it could also connote that these two people are important characters in this scene.

Editing -

Transitions -  The transition fade in has been denoted between shots, this is concludes the scene for the audience, as it is a way to change the location, this is a type of an ellipsis.
Title Graphics – Throughout the trailer a title has been denoted numerous of times, an example of this is when it says “The director’s best film yet. This is BRILLIANT” – Jason Solomons, The OBSERVER. This is used to show the review to show that the film has status.

Montage – This has been denoted when they boy gets his haircut; this is significant as this is when the boy is becoming one of them. The montage shows the progression of the boy having his hair cut by using a lot of different shots, this connotes that the boy is trying to fit in with the older people.

Slow motion – This has been denoted when the characters are jumping and walking, this has been used to show the audience something that is naturally too quick to see, this reinforce the mood during this scene.

Everything is seen at the beginning of the trailer is happy then a black screen is shown, this immediately changes the mood creating suspense

Sound -  The sound that is denoted in this film trailer is a non-diegetic sound which is denoted at the beginning of the film trailer when all the characters are happy, the music empathises the mood, the music also has a beat which is used to create a montage. However, half way through the film trailer the music changes to a tenser tune, this connotes that the mood has changed. Towards the end of the trailer the music changes into a peaceful tune, this creates a light-hearted atmosphere for the audience.

Genre - This Film is a comedy, I know this because denoted in the trailer there are conventions of a comedy.

Intended Audience -  The intended audience for 'This is England' is young adults aging from 18+ as the film is seen as inappropriate for younger viewers, I gathered this from the content just within the trailer, as it contained a high amount of violence and bad language which would be unsuitable for viewers under the age of 18.

Dead Mans Shoes (2010) - Film Trailer Directed by Shane Meadows - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFi6FrAV9SE

Purpose - The purpose of Dead Mans Shoes is to entertain viewers because the trailer intrigues the audiences to keep them watching to find out more. This film is a social realism film because even though it is a horror the trailer shows very real life situations which could happen in reality, this makes it more interesting to the audiences as it makes the film feel more real and likely to happen, this makes the audience more fearful of what is to happen next keeping them intrigued and on the edge of their seat making them want to see the full film to know more.

Form -
This video of the film is formed as a trailer, this is to give viewers a preview of the film to make them want to go and see it. There are a lot of dark parts in this trailer which creates enigma during this trailer this connotes that the film is a horror and is there to thrill and excite the audience.

Content/Meaning -
The Mise en scene Conventions are encoded to create a preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980) to the audience. The preferred reading (Hall 1980) of Dead Mans Shoes is a man wanting to get revenge on some people, he does this by doing evil things but he wears a mask so the killer stays a mystery. From the trailer I have gathered that even the audience aren't meant to know who the killer is at the beginning of the film, this makes the audience engrossed in the film as they start to raise their suspicions about people, this creates enigma and suspense. The location of Dead mans shoes is set in Matlock in Derbyshire, this is also a quite well know place, so as the audience will be familiar with the location, this creates verisimilitude as it makes the film feel and look more realist for the audience. The lighting in this film trailer is low key this connotes a very dark atmosphere for the film, this instantly forms a very intense film for the audience to view. However, during the film there are some parts that have High Key lighting; this composes a natural look in some scenes as well as it being a quite dark and gritty film. The main characters are wearing casual clothing such as coats, tops, trousers and jumpers, this is social realism as casual clothes is an ordinary thing to wear. The characters in this film trailer are the stereotypical dominant men, this is because the men in this film trailer are represented strong willed characters that often provoke one another, this is seen when the characters have intense conversations of which they both belittle each other. The props denoted in this film trailer are weapons and masks, these objects are quite significant in the film as it connotes violence, which is is symbolic in horror films as there is usually somebody that gets hurt. The male characters in this trailer denote very violent gestures, such as when the men are grasping on to someone, they throw him about in a violent manner which is a stereotypical man.

Film Trailer Structure -
This trailer is non-linear as it can't reveal to much however, Dead mans shoes trailer starts with calm atmosphere this shows to the audience that at the beginning the film trailer is peacefully, the trailer then goes on to show horrific scenes, which kicks off the rest of the story line, this is a form of disruption, this makes the audience eager to know more.

Camera Work -

Angles -  A low angle has been
denoted when there is a body on the floor looking up the other characters look down, this suggests that the body was vulnerable
Shot type - A establishing shot has been denoted in this trailer, this connotes whereabouts the scene set, this is seen at the beginning of the trailer where the camera shows the trees.

Movement - During this trailer a pan has being used, this is seen when the person with the axe is attracting someone, this emphasizes the movement of the character.

Editing -

Transitions - A transition denoted in this trailer is a fade out, this is seen at the beginning when the shots in trailer change from a man with a dog inside to a women on a sofa inside, this displays the change of location, this is a type of ellipsis as it doesn’t show the audience detail that doesn’t need to be shown.

Title Graphics – Titles have been the trailer, an example of this is when it says “Official selection Edinburgh film festival 2004" This title graphic is used to show the awards the film has won this connotes that the film deserves enough for the audience to watch the full film.

Sound - The sound that is denoted in this film trailer is a non-diegetic sound, this is denoted at the beginning of the film trailer when all the characters are happy, the music empathises the peacefulness at the beginning of the film, this music however changes after an unpleasant scene is shown, this instantly changes the audiences views on the trailer as it creates tension and enigma.

Genre -
The Genre of this film is thriller, I know this because of the dark atmosphere in the film, this creates enigma and tension which can be thrilling for the audience making the want to watch the film. The music in this trailer also connotes intense scenes

Tyrannosaur (2010) - Film Trailer Directed by Paddy Considine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvyqXFmV-LI

Purpose - The purpose of this film is to entertain and inform viewers because this film shows the emotional journey for the characters as included in the film is domestic violence, this creates a social realism film because the film is set is a local area this creates verisimilitude as the audience are familiar with the characters surroundings. This trailer also shows very real life situations which could happen in real life, this makes it more interesting to the audiences as it makes the film feel more real and likely to happen which makes the audience feel more emotion towards the individual characters which keeps the audience intrigued making them want to see the full film to know more.

Form -
This video of the film is formed as a trailer, this is to give viewers a preview of the film to make them want to go and see it. There are a lot of mysterious parts, this creates enigma throughout the trailer this connotes that the film is to thrill the audience.

Content/Meaning -   The Mise en scene conventions are encoded to create a preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980) to the viewer. The preferred reading (Hall 1980) of Tyrannosaur is to thrill the audience and keep them in suspense if what is to happen next as there is an ongoing mystery throughout the trailer  as the female character keeps a secret, this creates enigma and intrigued the audience to watch the full fill to reveal the secret. The location of this film trailer was set in Leeds and Wakefield which creates verisimilitude as it is in local areas, this keeps the audience engaged with the film as they can relate to it. This also sets up the film as social realism. The lighting in this film trailer is high key this makes the film have a natural look this is seen in the trailer when the scene is set outside in the daytime, however low key lighting has been used numerous of times in the trailer, this is seen in inside and outside scenes, this is to create enigma which keeps the audience in suspense. The costumes in this trailer are casual clothes, which are items such as coats and jeans, this creates verisimilitude of normality of the characters this is because this these are the standard modern clothes. The characters in this film trailer do not challenge our expectations as the men denoted in the trailer are stereotypical, I know this because the men seem to be very dominant, I think this because he men in this film trailer are represented as quite violent characters that often provoke and injure one another, this is seen throughout the trailer when the charcter denote violent gestures. The props denoted in this film trailer are weapons, these objects are quite significant in the film as it connotes violence, which is is symbolic to this narrative as there is somebody that will get hurt, this connotes the deliberate actions of the character. The female character denoted in this trailer is presented as quite powerless and vulnerable, this is stereotypical as women are seen as the weaker sex.

 Film Trailer Structure -

Tyrannosaur trailer is non linear as it doesn't give anything away, I know this because it only gives an over view of what is happening, this film shows the viewers some disruptions, however the film trailer doesnt give away how the disruption is solved, this creates enigma for the audience as it is kept a mystery, this leaves the audience guessing of which they will go a see the full film.

Camera Work -

Angles - A high angle has been used, this is denoted when there is a man on the floor, the high angle connotes the vulnerability and the powerlessness of this man which makes the audience empathise with the character.
Shot type - An over the shoulder shot has been denoted in this trailer where that male character and the female character are having a conversation in the shop, this shot acts as a spectator this allows the audience to have an insight into what the main character sees from his point of view.

Movement - A tilt has been denoted in this trailer, this is used to connote the vulnerability of the man as he is in a big open space compared to him, and this gives the audience an inside to his life, unlike the other characters that only see his violent and powerful side.

Editing -

Transitions - A transition used in this trailer is a fade out, this is seen at the beginning when the shots in trailer change from a man with a dog inside to a women on a sofa inside, this displays the change of location, this is a type of ellipsis as it doesn’t show the audience detail that doesn't need to be shown.

Title Graphics – Throughout the trailer a title has been used numerous of times, an example of this is when it says “Winner. World Cinema. Best Director. Best Actor. Best Actress. Sundance film festival. 2011"  This title graphic is used to show the awards the film has won this connotes that the film is deserving enough for the audience to watch the full film.

Sound - The sound that is denoted in this film trailer is a non-diegetic sound; this is denoted at the beginning of the film trailer. The non-diegetic sound is used to create enigma and suspense as the sound used doesn’t have an upbeat. However, midway through the trailer some peaceful non-diegetic music is introduced, this could suggest that the film gets calmer as the film progresses.

Genre -
The Genre of this film is drama, I know this because denoted in the trailer are very apprehensive scenes, these create tension which can be thrilling for the audience, these scenes are denoted in places such as when one of the male characters signal a threat, this already creates a sceptical about that character leading the audience in wanting to know more.

Intended Audience -
The intended audience of 'Tyrannosaur' are people over the ages of 18+ as the film is seen as inappropriate for younger viewers; I gathered this from the content just within the trailer, as it contained a high amount of violence which would be unsuitable for viewers under the age of 18.
